Reindeer Games isn’t your typical Christmas movie, and that’s what makes it so special. It’s a mystery thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat and guessing until the very end. The film was released in 2000, directed by John Frankenheimer and written by Ehren Kruger. It stars Ben Affleck, Charlize Theron, and Gary Sinise in lead roles.
The plot of the movie revolves around Rudy Duncan (Ben Affleck), who is an ex-convict on parole working at a truck stop during Christmas. His cellmate Nick (James Frain) has been writing to Ashley (Charlize Theron), a girl he met through a pen pal service while he was incarcerated. When Nick’s letter arrives with the news of his imminent release, Rudy decides to assume his identity in order to meet Ashley. What follows is a deadly game of deception as Rudy gets caught up in Nick’s criminal world.
The story is set against the beautiful backdrop of a snowy Michigan landscape during Christmas. The film is full of twists and turns that keep you guessing until the very end, making it one of those movies that is hard to predict.
